Gingerbread Hot Chocolate

A smooth vegan hot chocolate, with gingerbread flavors, perfect for the Christmas season!

About the ingredients

For this recipe, I used unsweetened oat milk. Any type of plant-based milk would work, If already sweetened, remove the sugar from the recipe.

Same, if you’re using sweetened cocoa powder, no need for more sugar.

Cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg are the traditional gingerbread spices. You can also add anise, cloves or cardamom. Cinnamon sticks and fresh ginger should be infused in the hot milk for 10 minutes with a lid on first, before proceeding with the recipe.

How to make a thick vegan gingerbread hot chocolate

Mix all the dry ingredients in a pot, before pouring the milk slowly, while whisking.

Over medium-low heat, bring to a simmer (stirring often), and when small bubbles appear, stir continuously for one more minute to thicken.

Pour into a cup and enjoy right away!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder (4 g)
  • 1 tbsp sugar (15 g)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (10 g)
  • 1 ¼ cups plant-based milk (310 ml)
  • tsp ginger powder
  • tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg

Instructions
 

  • Mix all the dry ingredients together in a pot.
  • Slowly pour the milk in, while whisking.
  • Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat, stirring often.
  • Once a few gentle bubbles appear, cook for one more minute to thicken(whisking continuously).
  • Pour in a cup and enjoy right away!
